1-night event (most common)✨ :
9am Saturday until 11am Sunday
2-night events (rare):
5:30pm Friday until 11am Sunday
Each season (fall and spring) we are provided a list of available dates and locations from Texas Outdoor Family. We email our NTKO members a survey to identify the most popular dates and locations for hosting a camping trip.
We try to plan 2 trips each fall and 2 trips each spring.
We usually camp at parks within 1- 2 hours of the Dallas Fort-Worth metro, such as:
Cleburne State Park
Ray Roberts Lake State Park
Dinosaur Valley State Park
Eisenhower State Park
Cedar Hill State Park
Lake Mineral Wells State Park
Cooper Lake State Park
Tawakoni State Park
park entrance fee
water and electric campsite with showers nearby (depending on park)
6-person tent
2 Cots (adults)
sleeping pads (youth)
stove, pans and fuel
solar Lantern
recreation equipment such as kayaks, GPS units, fishing rods, and more! (depends on park)
food and cooler with ice
clothing
personal items
You probably have all of what you need at home. No need to buy anything fancy!
When you RSVP, we will email you a detailed Welcome Packet about 1 week before your trip that includes suggested packing lists, meal ideas, and other considerations. If you would feel more comfortable seeing that before you RSVP, contact us, and we'll share it with you!
You must bring your own drinks, food, cooking supplies beyond what is provided, and cooler with ice (see section above).
NTKO leaders typically organize an optional potluck dinner for Saturday night. We pick a theme and include a sign-up genius link with the email you receive before the trip.
Members that want to participate in the potluck are asked to bring an item(s) to share with others. We do this to build community and reduce the burden of cooking.
NTKO will include a schedule for the weekend in the email you will receive after you RSVP and pay. State Park staff and volunteers may be involved in activities listed on the schedule so we must be respectful and remain on time.
Each activity is "challenge by choice". You'll be invited, but never forced to participate. If you need a break or want to skip an activity, simply let an NTKO leader know.
Typical activities vary between state parks and may include:
hiking
fishing
kayaking
swimming
stargazing
geocaching
build a campfire
Dutch Oven cooking
attend a ranger-led program
NTKO will make reservations and provide a roster and schedule to park staff before a trip
Participants must arrive at the scheduled start time to prevent delays and impacts for activities and park staff
Participants must check in at the state park headquarters to obtain a permit based on the event roster
No pets allowed during any events
Registered participants must ensure gear is properly cleaned and dried before returning to gear trailer. NTKO must inspect gear and any issues with gear must be fixed BEFORE participants leave the event. Failure to do so may result in NTKO being ineligible for hosting future events.
NTKO must pack and lock the gear trailer by 11:00 AM Sunday, however participants can stay until park closes.
Due to the way the state processes funds, there are no refunds.
If the event is cancelled by TOF staff, you will hear from us to reschedule and what you paid will become a credit for a future trip. The credit will expire 1 year from the date of issue.
